It was so much fun. The Habitat people in charge were nice. They provided us with boots (bring socks). Hot 97 hosted it and gave us T-shirts. There was also a group from The U.S. Army. Pizza was provided for lunch. And there were some cute guys there! The only down side is now my allergies are killing me and all the dirt I was around probably has something to do with it. Join their email list and I hope you get to volunteer soon! Just make sure bring a mask or bandanna to cover your nose and mouth! Question what authors write in articles
Don’t forget to question what you learn in class every once in a while. You don’t always have to agree with what is said in class and your assigned readings.
A take on black people treating each other bad on campus
What I had to read for class: “Negotiating cultural differences in urban science education settings” by Dr. Ashraf Shady
If your an ed major you have to know Paolo Freire. He was Brazilian and wrote “The Pedagogy of the Oppressed.” The book is about how students from low income communities learn.
This paragraph said by him blew my mind. It was pertaining to the classroom. How students treat each other bad instead of acknowledging they both dont like the teacher and report her. This touched my heart because it reminds me of college. There was so few black students at my college but instead of getting along we treated each other bad. Maybe the micro and macro aggressions of racism got to us?

When someone gives you their contact info (business card or otherwise) don’t forget to follow up so they know have yours. First it’s just plain polite. And second you avoid that whole bad , man- need- this- persons-help- but- I never- contacted- them -after – meeting-them feeling.
